Scotland County’s students and families face common challenges to accessing mental healthcare in rural areas: too much stigma regarding mental health challenges and too few providers to help the growing number of kids who need it.
Our 90-minute conversation with the school district’s behavioral health team and the county’s mental health support network delivered creative ideas for how to use Scotland’s existing resources more efficiently to address these challenges.

Orange County Schools (OCS) is focused on putting students at the center of everything it does. But with the number of students experiencing trauma on the rise and limited mental health resources, delivering timely care in a student-focused way was growing increasingly difficult.
